“Live in the sunshine. Swim in the sea. Drink in the wild air.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bare feet and barbecues.

Sunshine and swimming pools. Warm summer days are here! Sure, we want to enjoy the next few months with some outside time. But caution is needed. Why? Overexposure to UV rays can cause serious health issues.

July is UV Safety Awareness Month.

There are good reasons to protect yourself from the sun. According to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs¹, unprotected sun exposure can cause the following problems:

  • Vision problems
  • Skin cancer
  • Premature aging

We’ve all heard it before, but it bears repeating:

We need to wear sunscreen!

According to the American Cancer Society²,  sunscreen is vital toward keeping our skin healthy. Choose a 30 or higher SPF. Also, it’s best to choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB ray, providing all-around protection from the sun.

So, get out there, enjoy the beautiful summer weather. But don’t forget to take care of your skin now and for many summers to come.
