Breast Cancer Awareness Month — Don’t Forget To Be Pink!

The month of October is more than half over, and we here at Graham-Field would be remiss if we didn’t acknowledge October as Breast Cancer Awareness month. Yes, with all that is going on in the world, we don’t want to forget to be pink.

The breast cancer awareness campaign, which began in 1985, was established to increase global awareness of breast cancer.

So, education about the disease, the importance of early detection, and fundraising efforts are all goals of this important awareness month.

Why be concerned?

According to the Susan G. Komen Foundation, breast cancer is the most common type of cancer found in women and makes up about 30 percent of newly diagnosed cancers in women¹. So education and early detection are vital to help women be their healthiest. Happily, as Komen.org goes on to state, improvements in early detection and treatment have led to a 40 percent decline in breast cancer deaths in the U.S. between the years of 1989 and 2017¹.

What can we do?

For women, the answer to that question is easy:

Be screened for breast cancer.

The Komen foundation gives recommendations for screening based on age and risk factors at this link² (of course, every woman should consult her doctor). For all of us, we have the opportunity to donate our time and money to reputable organizations that are doing breast cancer research and helping women in need get the screening and help they need with their health. So continue to take steps for yourself and your family and stay safe and healthy from the ongoing pandemic.

But don’t forget that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month; yes, don’t forget to be pink!
